Атомные бомбардировки Хиросимы и Нагасаки (6 и 9 августа 1945 года) до сих пор остаются единственными в истории человечества случаями боевого применения ядерного оружия. Сброс снарядов был осуществлен по приказу 33-го президента США Гарри Трумэна на завершающем этапе Второй мировой войны.

Смертоносная волна: 75 лет назад США сбросили атомную бомбу на Хиросиму

Сначала американцы склонялись к достаточно гуманной идее — сбросить бомбу на почти безлюдные рисовые поля. Но позже Трумэн счел, что такая демонстрация силы не принесет желаемого эффекта. Необходим большой резонанс в обществе — чтобы вся Япония содрогнулась от ужаса и весь мир понял, "кто в доме хозяин".

Рано утром 6 августа американский бомбардировщик с 9-километровой высоты сбросил атомную бомбу на Хиросиму. Взрыв смел с лица земли 90% городских кварталов и около 100 тысяч жителей. Еще десятки тысяч умерли позже — от радиации и голода. Ядерный гриб был виден на расстоянии 600 километров.

Через три дня, 9 августа, США была скинута вторая бомба на Японию. Изначально планировалась атаковать город Кокура, ну из-за густых облаков его просто не было видно, поэтому снаряд полетел на Нагасаки.

Взрыв этого ядерного снаряда был гораздо мощнее, чем хиросимского. Однако городу "помог" холмистый рельеф. К концу года число погибших от ранений и болезней жителей Нагасаки превысило 140 тысяч.

Согласно последним подсчетам, жертвами чудовищных взрывов стали около 450 тысяч человек.

Для граждан Японии память о национальной трагедии стала священной. Главным монументом является статуя девочки с бумажной птицей в руке, установленная в парке Мира в Хиросиме.

Памятник посвящен Садако Сасаки — девочке, которая в два года пережила трагедию Хиросимы. Она выжила, но через 9 лет у нее нашли признаки лучевой болезни. Согласно старинной японской легенде, сложившему из бумаги тысячу журавликов удастся вылечиться от любого недуга. Она делала журавликов.

Памятник Садако Сасаки стал символом японской беды и надежды.
